A youth was stabbed to death allegedly by a group of miscreants in the capital’s South Jatrabari area on Saturday.

The victim was identified as Babul Hossain, 32, a furniture technician by profession.

Shafiqul Islam, brother-in-law of the victim, said Babul with his co-worker Kamal was returning from his workplace at Kazla by a rickshaw.

Four to five goons intercepted them on their way when they reached in front of Mona Tower on Shaheed Faruk Road at around 9:30pm.

At one stage, miscreants stabbed him with sharp knives,

leaving Babul critically injured. Babul was rushed to the DMCH where the doctors on duty declared him dead at around 3:00am on Sunday, said Shafiqul Islam.

Kamal caught one of the goons named Ratan while the rest managed to flee.

Ratan was handed over to police. Babul was killed as he refused to pay extortion to the criminals, Shafiqul added.

Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station, told the Daily Sun that two groups of Jubo League locked in a clash.

Babul, an activist of local Jubo League, was injured in the clash.

He was returned to his residence after receiving primary treatment from the DMCH but later on died, he said. A man was arrested but his name could not be disclosed, he added.

A case was filed in this regard.
