Student held for growing hemp in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI: Police have arrested a college student for cultivating hemp at Bagmara upazila in Rajshahi.

Arrested Sagar Ahmed, 21, is the son of Mahabur Rahman of Khunjipur village under Basupara union of the upazila. Police and local sources said Mahabur and his son secretly planted 55 hemp trees on their onion field.

Sensing the matter, locals informed police. Later, police conducted a drive and arrested Sagar and recovered 55 hemp trees weighing 24 kg form their onion field on Monday night.

A case has been filed in this regard under the Narcotics Control Act.

Bagmara Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mostaq Ahmed confirmed the matter.
