Bus driver arrested

Police have arrested the bus driver of ‘Hanif Paribahan’ in a case filed over the Friday’s road accident on the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway that left 17 people dead.

The accused of the case- Md Abdur Rahim, 35, hailed from Baroipara, Puthyia, Rajshahi, was arrested from Mahindra Bypass area of Rajshahi’s Puthyia around 2:00pm of Saturday, said Golam Ruhul Kuddus, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.

Sub-inspector of Rajshahi’s Katakhali Police Station Nur Mohammad filed the case with Katakhali police station accusing Md Abdur Rahim, who was driving the bus of Hanif Paribahan while the head-on collision took place between the bus and the microbus, leaving 17 dead-11 of whom were burnt to death after a vehicle caught fire. 

The driver has been made accused for reckless driving, endangering human life, hurting public safety and for responsible killing, said the police official.
