CHATTOGRAM: Seven shops were gutted in a fire in the city’s Chandgaon area on Tuesday.

Sources in the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) department said the fire broke out from electric short-circuit at a tin-roofed shop in Kaptai Rastar Matha area around 5:30am.

It spread fast engulfing six other adjoining shops of different items within a short time.

On receiving information, three fire fighting units from Kalurghat Fire Station rushed to the spot and doused the fire after a frantic effort of three hours.

Damages in the fire were estimated at around Tk 7 lakh, said Station Officer Atish Chakma of the fire station.
