22 more die of corona, 2,172 cases detected

Twenty-two more died of coronavirus infection and 2,172 cases were detected in the country during the last 24 hours till Sunday morning.

Corona situation has taken a serious turn in the country as the number of death and cases are increasing at an alarming rate.

The infection rate rose to 10.29 per cent in the last 24 hours till Sunday morning.

According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 22 more coronavirus infected patients died in the last 24 hours till Sunday morning. The total death toll has stood at 8,690.

It said 2,172 new cases were detected in the country in the last 24 hours till 8:00am Sunday, raising the total number to 5,70,878.   

The health directorate reported 9.38 per cent infection rate on December 21 last year while the infection rate went down afterwards.

However, the daily coronavirus infection case detection rate was below five 5 per cent for about two months while the new case detection and the infection rate have been going up for last few weeks.

Some 1,687 more patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number to 5,22,405 in the country till the day.

The DGHS data said the coronavirus death rate has stood at 1.52 percent. On the other hand, the recovery rate also has declined to 91.51 percent, it added.

The health directorate said 12.95 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus till the date while 10.29 percent samples have been diagnosed with the fatal disease in a day.

A total of 21,259 samples, out of 21,108 collected, were tested at 219 labs in the country during the period, the report added.

A total of 44,09,119 samples have been tested so far to detect coronavirus infection across the country.

The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 last year while the first death was recorded on March 18 the same year in the country.
