2 sent to jail for torturing journo in Sunamganj

SUNAMGANJ: A court here on Monday sent two people to jail in a case filed over torturing journalist Kamal Hossain for his report on lifting of sand and stone illegally from the River Jadukata.

Sunamganj Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Md Khaled Mia passed the order this morning. The prime accused in the case are Mahmud Ali Shah and Deen Islam.

According to the case statement, on February 1 some people intercepted Kamal Hossain, upazila correspondent of Dainik Shangbad and Dainik Shubho Pratidin, in Tahirpur upazila when he was taking photos of illegal sand lifting from the river.

They snatched Kamal’s camera, mobile phone and motorcycle and tortured him after tying him to a tree. Kamal Hossain filed a case against five people on February 2. The journalist is also the organising secretary of Tahirpur Upazila Press club.
