4 arrested for blackmailing bank official

CHATTOGRAM: Police arrested four criminals on charge of realising money through blackmailing a bank official from different areas in the city on Thursday.

The arrestees were identified as Md Shahid Alam alias Ledu, 30, Jahangir Alam, 30, Gias Uddin, 29, and Md Raihan, 28. Sources said the victim developed a friendship with a girl over mobile phone.

At one stage, the girl invited him to go to her residence in the afternoon of March 5.

As the official called her after reaching the Rahattarpole area, she sent one Raihan to receive him.

Raihan took him to an open space behind ‘Bismillah Tower’ in Chandapukur area where Ledu, Gias and Jahangir along with others were waiting from earlier, said officer in-charge (OC) Ruhul Amin of Bakolia Police Station.

They demanded Tk 2 lakh from the official threatening him of disclosing the matter of illegal relationship and handing over to police.

The official managed the money over Bkash and handed the amount over them, said the OC.

As the victim lodged complaint in this regard with the police station on Thursday, police arrested the four from different areas of the city.

The arrestees are active members of an organised gang and accused of several cases filed with different police stations in the city, he said. The female members of the gang used to develop relationship with people of affluent section and later trap them to realise money, the OC added.
