Corona cases continue to rise

13 more die, 1,066 infections detected

Thirteen more coronavirus infected patients died and 1,066 cases were detected in the last 24 hours till Friday morning. The death toll rose to 8,515.

The rate of total coronavirus infection cases has been increasing continuously for last few days as the infection rate has crossed 6 per cent across the country during this time.

According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 1066 new cases were detected in the country in the last 24 hours till 8:00am Friday, raising the total number to 5,55,222.     

Some 1,252 more patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number to 5,09,172 in the country till the day.

The DGHS data said the coronavirus death rate has stood at 1.53 percent. On the other hand, the recovery rate also has reached 91.66 percent, it added.

The health directorate said 13.14 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus till the date while 5.71 percent samples have been diagnosed with the fatal disease in a day.

A total of 15,782 samples, out of 16,111 collected, were tested at 219 labs in the country during the period, the report added.

A total of 42,32,139 samples have been tested so far to detect coronavirus infection across the country.

The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 last year while the first death was recorded on March 18 the same year in the country.
