19.7m metres of illegal net seized in Munshiganj

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) seized 19.7 million metres of illegal fishing net worth about Tk 59.10 crore during a drive at various factories in Munshiganj on Tuesday.

Lieutenant Commander Amirul Haque, media officer of BCG Headquarters, said, “Acting on secret information, a team of BCG Pagla Station conducted a drive at the three illegal fishing net-making factories -- Saoban Fiber Industry Ltd, Tonmoy Fishing Industry Ltd and Rana Munshi -- located in Gushaibagh and Panchasar areas near Muktarpur bridge in Munshiganj from 3:00am to 9:00am on Tuesday.”

Munshiganj District Fisheries officer Dr Abdul Alim, Senior Upazila Fisheries officer Md Tipu Sultan and Executive Magistrate Md Elias Sikdar were present during the drive. Later, the illegal net was burned.
