Noted woman entrepreneur Luna dies

Former chairman of Janata Bank Ltd and eminent woman entrepreneur Luna Shamsuddoha died of colon cancer on Wednesday. She was 53.

She was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore.

Her body will be brought back to Bangladesh this morning.

With her appointment as the chairman of Janata Bank Ltd in 2018 Luna Shamsuddoha became the first female chairman of a state-owned bank in Bangladesh.

She also served as a member of the board of Janata Bank and a board member of Agrani Bank.

After her graduation in sociology and post graduation in international relations from Dhaka University, she joined the Institute of Modern Language at the university as a lecturer.

A few years later Luna Shamsuddoha began doing business. As a woman entrepreneur she attained a remarkable success.

She was the chairman of the Dohatec New Media. Her software firm was involved in the development of voter enrolment solution in 2007-2008.

Dohatec developed several e-Governance Project and also developed the electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) System that helped ensure transparency in the government procurement.

She was founder president of Bangladesh Women in Technology (BWIT). She is the founder of Bangladesh Business Magazine and a member of Switzerland-based Council Global Thought Leaders on Inclusive Growth.

For her outstanding contributions to the field of business, Luna Shamsuddoha received a number of awards including Outstanding Woman in Business, the Bangladesh Business Award-2017 and Anannya Top Ten Awards.
