A woman reportedly murdered her so-called lover and cut the body into five pieces at Wari in the capital on Thursday.
On information, police recovered the body pieces from a toilet of the couple’s rented residence on KM Das Lane of Swamibagh at noon and sent those to Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital for autopsy.The deceased was identified as Sajib Ahmed, 40, hailing from Jhenaidah. He used to work as an employee of transport company ‘Shyamoli Paribahan’.
Police arrested the alleged killer, Shahnaj Akhter, 50. She used to run a boutique shop, police said.
Azizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Wari Police Station, told the Daily Sun that they were so-called lovers.
During primary interrogation, Shahnaj claimed that Sajib tried to kill her with a knife, but she managed to snatch the knife and stabbed him with it.
After confirming his death, she cut the body into five pieces in the toilet, the OC said.
Hannanul Islam, assistant commissioner (Wari) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told the Daily Sun that Sajib and Shahjan hired a flat in the area recently introducing themselves as husband and wife.They were going through a strained relation over the last few days as they locked in quarrel again and again, he said, quoting Shahnaj.
The woman claimed that she alone killed the man, but police will investigate whether anyone else was involved in the incident, Hannanul said.
