Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Friday that all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will be under observation for the next 48 hours as he sustained a new injury on his left thigh during the ongoing Test against West Indies at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury in Chattogram.

BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin indicated that they are not ruling him entirely from the series but he may be out of the first Test.

“He will be under 48-hour observation,” Minhajul told reporters.

Earlier A statement from BCB suggested that he sustained a new injury.

“Having recovered from his previous groin injury ahead of the first Test and successfully managing to bat in the Bangladesh first innings as well as send down six overs, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has suffered a strain in a different region of his left thigh while fielding on day two.

“The injury was confirmed by an MRI scan this morning. The BCB medical team will continue to treat and review his progress for the first Test,” it added.

BCB’s statement confirmed that it was a new injury considering the last one was on the groin of his left leg while the new injury is on his left thigh.
