Bangladesh Football Federation president Kazi Salahuddin on Saturday said that they were facing problems to find participating teams for the upcoming Bangabandhu Gold Cup International Football Tournament due to the corona pandemic.
The seventh edition of the tournament is scheduled to be held on March 1-11 this year in Dhaka.“We are facing some problems to arrange the Bangabandhu Gold Cup. No country is giving 100 percent assurance to come here due to the COVID-19,” Salahuddin told reporters in Cumilla.
“They are telling us to wait for some time as the vaccine is rolling on. We have World Cup qualifiers in March so most of the teams will be engaged during that time,” he added.
Bangladesh are scheduled to play against Afghanistan in the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 on March 25 in Sylhet after the tournament.
National footballers are expected to be in a preparation camp on February 18-28 before those matches.
