Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon today

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon 2021 will be held today under the arrangement of Bangladesh Army to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as part of the ‘Mujib Borsho’.

The day marks the historic Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu as he had returned to independent and sovereign Bangladesh on this day in 1972 after over nine and a half months of captivity in a Pakistan jail.

 A total of 37 foreign runners will take part in the marathon, including runners from France, Kenya, Ethiopia, Bahrain, Belarus, Ukraine, Morocco and from SAARC countries ---India, Maldives, Nepal and Pakistan.

Among the foreign athletes participating in the marathon, 31 will take part in the full marathon and 6 in the half marathon.

In the full marathon, the male and female foreign elite section champion will receive $15,000, the runner-up $10,000, the third-place winner $5,000, the fourth-place winner $4,000, the fifth-place winner $3,000, the sixth place winner $2,000 and the seventh-place winner will get $1,000.

Among SAARC and local male and female runners, the champions will get Tk 5 lakh, runner-up Tk 4 lakh, third place winner Tk 3 lakh, fourth place winner Tk 2 lakh and fifth place winner will get Tk 1 lakh in prize money.

In the male and female half marathon segment, the foreign elite section champion will get $2,750, the runner-up will get $1,500 and the third-place winner will get prize money of $750. Among the local participants, the champion will get Tk 2.5 lakh, runner-up Tk 2 lakh, third place winner Tk 1.5 lakh and fourth and fifth place winners will get Tk 10,000 each.

The 42.195-km full marathon and 21.097-km half marathon will start from the Army Stadium and end at Hatirjheel.

The route will be Bangladesh Army Stadium-Kakoli Crossing- Kemal Ataturk Avenue-Gulshan-2-Gulshan-1-Police Plaza-Hatirjheel (complete Hatirjheel will end with five rounds).

One hundred people will take part in the full marathon which will start at 6:30 am while the half marathon will kick off at 6:45 am with the participation of 100 people.

All the participants will have to take part in the marathon after testing negative for coronavirus.

This marathon has received approval from the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and the International Athletics Association (AAA).

The full and half marathon will be held on January 10. On the other hand, the digital marathon will be held until March 7.

Runners can take part by downloading an app from the Playstore. About 1.5 lakh applications have already been received. Organizers expect 1 million applicants to take part in the digital marathon.

This marathon will be organized not only in the country but also abroad in the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

DMP traffic instructions

January 10 (Sunday) from 4:30 am until the end of the marathon, all types of vehicles will be banned from entering Hatirjheel.

During the marathon, all types of bus communication in Hatirjheel will be closed. Visitors will leave their vehicles in the designated parking area and enter the venue by walking on foot.

The route will be Bangladesh Army Stadium-Kakoli Crossing- Kemal Ataturk Avenue-Gulshan-2-Gulshan-1-Police Plaza-Hatirjheel (complete Hatirjheel will end with five rounds). Traffic will be temporarily closed on the road while the team passes.

DMP Parking information

There will be parking at two places near Aarong in front of ACI office in Tejgaon industrial area near Satrasta intersection. There will be special parking in front of the Police Plaza.

 DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has sought the full cooperation of the people to maintain order and avoid traffic jams during the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon 2021.

 At the same time, the DMP boss also expressed regret over the temporary disruption in the movement of citizens’ vehicles.
