BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s negative comments about Padma Bridge have boomeranged on her, as its construction is going on in full swing with all spans already installed and the mega infrastructure fully visible over the mighty river.

The former prime minister’s negative campaign against the Padma Bridge construction has come to a discussion after the last and 41st span of the bridge installed on Thursday.

Addressing a party programme on 2 January 2018, Khaleda said Padma Bridge will be risky to use for being constructed with patchworks. She urged people not to use it.

A question has arisen on how a head of a political party like BNP can spread negative campaign against the country’s dream project which will strengthen communications and boost trade and commerce.

Like Khaleda Zia, other leaders of the opposition party also made critical comments on Padma Bridge.

“The main objective of them (Awami League) is to plunder money -- not to construct the bridge,” BNP leader Moudud Ahmed told a programme.

Many other leaders made similar comments which confuse people and disregard the government’s good initiative, experts said.

The installation of the spans of Padma Bridge has ridiculed Khaleda Zia who has been convicted of corruption.

The construction work of the bridge is going on in full swing although development activities in modern and developed countries have come to a standstill due to the corona pandemic.

The installation of the last span is major stride towards the government’s plan to inaugurate the bridge to be used for traffic next year.
