A number of leaders and activists from 65 pro-liberation and socio-cultural organisations on Tuesday demanded arrest of Hefajat-e-Islam Amir Junaid Babunagari and Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque for opposing construction of Bangabandhu’s sculpture.

They also demanded a ban on politics of Jammat-e-Islami and Hefajat-e-Islam.

With the initiative of Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, they formed a human chain around 2:30 pm from the capital's Matshya Bhaban to Shahbagh  intersection to press home their demands. While addressing the event, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said Hefajat-e-Islam should withdraw the statement opposing construction of Bangabandhu’s sculpture. Otherwise, people believing in the spirit of the liberation war will give a befitting reply, he said.

Awami League presidium member Shajahan Khan MP said that those who oppose the construction of Bangabandhu’s sculpture will not be spared.
