A Sylhet court on Tuesday placed suspended sub-inspector (SI) Akbar Hossain Bhuyian on a seven-day remand for interrogation on the custodial death of Rayhan Ahmed in Bandarbazar Police Outpost.

Sylhet Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Abul Kashem passed the order after investigation officer (IO) of the case Awlad Hossain produced him before the court with a plea of a seven-day remand.

On Monday, police arrested Akbar, who is the prime accused of the murder of Rayhan, along the Dona bordering area in Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet.

Later, his wife Tahmina Akter Tanni filed a case with Kotwali Police Station accusing a number of unidentified people for her husband’s death.

On October 12, the authorities suspended four policemen, including the then in-charge of Bandarbazar Police Outpost Akbar, in connection with the incident.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) formed an investigation committee, headed by its Additional Deputy Commissioner Shahriar Al Mamun to look into the matter.

After the autopsy, doctors said they found 111 injury marks on Rayhan’s body and two of his nails were pulled out.
