A mobile court on Wednesday and Thursday sentenced owners and staffers of three private hospitals in the capital to different terms of imprisonment for providing treatment by fake doctors.

The owners were also running their hospitals without licence in an unhygienic atmosphere.

The mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) raided Makka Madina General Hospital, Nurjahan Orthopedic and General Hospital and Crescent Hospital Ltd in Mohammadpur and Shyamoli areas on the days.

The hospitals also used to lure patients of the government hospitals into taking treatment at their hospitals at lower costs, said Palash Kumar Bashu, executive magistrate of the mobile court.

The magistrate sentenced Nur Nabi, owner of Makka Madina General Hospital, to one year imprisonment while his employees Rashid and Kalu were sentenced to six months’ imprisonment each.

The magistrate told journalists that Nur Nabi, 50, passed only HSC examination. He provided treatment to the patients as a specialist doctor. He also conducted surgery of serious diseases.  The court sentenced Babul Hossain, owner of Nurjahan Orthopedic and General Hospital, to one year imprisonment while OT boy Jahangir Hossain was jailed for two years.

The court also sentenced Abul Hossain, managing director of Crescent Hospital to one year jail.
