Stocks bounce back

Dhaka Stock Exchange gained on Tuesday after fall in one straight session as the optimistic investors continued their buying binge riding on sector-wise issues.

DSEX, the key index of the DSE, went up by 8.40 points or 0.17 percent to settle at 5,100.55.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, surged 5.33 points or 0.30 percent to finish at 1,761.34 and the DSE Shariah Index gained 0.15 points or 0.01 percent to close at 1,170.57.

Turnover stood at Tk 9.95 billion on the country’s premier bourse, which was 13 per cent lower than the previous day’s turnover of Tk 11.48 billion.

Of the issues traded, 128 advanced, 174 declined and 53 issues remained unchanged on the DSE floor.

A total number of 206,287 trades were executed in the day’s trading session with a trading volume of 365.13 million shares and mutual fund units.

The market-cap on the premier bourse also rose to Tk 3,862 billion on Tuesday, from Tk 3,852 billion in the previous session.

The pharmaceuticals sector continued to dominate the turnover chart with Beximco Pharma topped the chart with shares worth Tk 323 million changing hands, followed by Beximco, Brac Bank, Orion Pharma and Orion Infusion.

Asia Insurance was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 9.95 per cent, followed by Provati Insurance Company, Asia Insurance, Agrani Insurance Co, Pioneer Insurance Company, Phoenix Insurance Company and Continental Insurance.

Shympur Sugar Mills was the worst loser, losing 9.90 per cent, followed by R.N. Spinning Mills, Generation Next Fashions, Savar Refractories, Fareast Finance & Investment, Bangladesh Industrial Fin. Co and Tallu Spinning Mills.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange also edged higher with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)—gaining 13 points to close at 14,527 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX advancing 16 points to close at 8,739.

Of the issues traded, 149 gained, 88 declined and 39 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 16.27 million shares and mutual fund units with turnover value of Tk 261 million.
