CMCH interns go for work abstention

CHATTOGRAM: A faction of Intern Doctors Association (IDA) of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) went for an indefinite work abstention from Friday, protesting attack on a fellow member.

The agitators loyal to former Mayor and Awami League Chattogram city unit General Secretary AJM Nasir Uddin also demanded immediate arrest of the attackers.

On the other hand, police arrested eleven students over the clash between two rival groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chittagong Medical College (CMC) unit and intern doctors on Thursday.

The arrestees were identified as Shahriar Islam, Khorshedul Alam, Obaidul Hoque, Bulbul Ahmed, Ataullah Bukhari, KM Tanvir, Emon Sikder, Mahmudul Hasan, Abhijeet Das, Towfiqur Rahman and Sarwar Faruquee.

They are the followers of Deputy Minister for Education Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury, sources said.  Intern doctor Awal Rafi filed the case with the Chawkbazar police station in this connection. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Ruhul Amin of the police station said the two groups of BCL locked in a factional clash over establishing supremacy at the college hostel on Thursday afternoon.

IDA leaders including Convener Osman Gani also came under attack while returning after filing the case on Thursday night.

The association called the indefinite work abstention following the attack.

They also held a protest rally in front of the CMCH on Friday morning.

Contacted, CMCH Director Brigadier General SM Humayun Kabir said he called a meeting with CMC teachers and inter doctors to find out a solution in this connection.

The situation was under control and additional forces were deployed on the campus to avert any untoward incident further, he said.
