Chairman threatens journo in Ramganj

LAKSHMIPUR: Bashir Ahamed Manik, chairman of Bholakot Union Parishad under Ramganj Upazila of the district threatened a local journalist for allegedly publishing a report on corruption of different projects, misappropriation development funds and sex scandal.

In this connection, the journalist Rahmatullah Patwary, Ramganj upazila correspondent of the daily Bangladesher Khobor and Assistant Editor of Ramganj Barta, a written complaint was filed with Ramganj Police Station in this regard on Sunday.

Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of the thana confirmed the matter to the correspondent on Monday. The police officer told the daily sun “We have received the complaint and we are investigating into the matter. As have also sent the complaint to the technical expert of police and legal action will be taken after getting expert report.”

In the meantime, this correspondent could not reach Bashir Ahamed Manik, Bholakot Union Parishad Chairman of Ramganj despite making several attempts to communicate on phone.

Earlier a report was published on July 25, a national bangla daily against the chairman.

Journalist Rahmatullah also alleged that Chairman Bashir Ahamed Manik and his associates -- Fardin Ahasan Raju, Millath Patwary, Kazi Masud Rana, Ananta and Jakir Hossain also threatened him on mobile phone and Facebook with dire consequences if any report is published in this regard.

Journalist Rahmatullah Patwary and his family members are living in fear as several sources confirmed an upcoming attack is on its way as an aftermath of his reports against the chairman Bashir Ahamed Manik.
