Bangladesh National Team Cricketers have started practice on their own despite the fear of COVID-19.
International cricket has already resumed. Cricket has returned to the field in many countries. But it’s not the case for Bangladesh as the contagion situation hasn't improved. It is not clear when cricket will resume in Bangladesh. The cricketers have not yet been allowed to practice at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital due to the fear of COVID-19. Although all facilities are ready, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is not responding to the request of the cricketers citing the fact that Mirpur has been included in the list of ‘Red Zone’.
The national team cricketers, however, are not sitting still. Many have started practicing on their own. Cricketers have been doing fitness exercises at home since the beginning of the pandemic induced general holidays.
In the meantime, Mohammad Saifuddin started doing skill training in Feni while Mushfiqur Rahim and Taskin Ahmed are practicing in Dhaka, Sabbir Rahman in Rajshahi and Khaled Ahmed is improving his ability in Sylhet. They have started their skills training on batting and bowling. Following their example, many more are preparing to return to the field.
Saifuddin has been staying in Feni since the beginning of the pandemic. The young pacer has been doing his running, bowling and batting at Feni Government College ground since Ramadan. He has recently made wicket for himself. The pace bowling all-rounder also shared those videos on his social media handle.
“I have been doing fitness and skill training on the ground of Feni Government College since Ramadan. But I can't do it now because of the rain,” Saifuddin told the media on Sunday.
Sabbir Rahman is also concentrating on his practice. The right-handed batsman who has been out of the national team for a long time has started running drills at Rajshahi Sericulture Field, doing fitness work regularly at the gymnasium at Clemon Academy and doing batting practice in the Indoors of the Divisional Stadium.“As the spread of coronavirus is still on an upward trend, I am making sure that I am alone while practicing in Rajshahi Sericulture field. I am doing gym workouts in Clemon Academy and batting in the indoors of Rajshahi Divisional Cricket Stadium,” Sabbir Rahman said.
Nazmul Hossain Shanto, the top-order batsman of the national team based in Rajshahi, has also started working on his fitness. The left-arm batsman will start batting practice soon. Jhenaidah-based fast bowler Al-Amin Hossain is keeping himself in shape. Recently a video of his bowling practice was emerged in the social media. In Sylhet, two fast bowlers namely Khaled Ahmed and Ebadat Hossain are also working on their bowling.
Nurul Hasan Sohan has gone back to Khulna. This wicketkeeper-batsman is practicing at his home in Khulna.
Almost all the cricketers living in Dhaka are doing fitness exercises while staying at their respective homes.
