The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday summoned Lakshmipur-2 constituency lawmaker Md Shahid Islam alias Kazi Papul’s wife Selina Islam, who is also a member of parliament, and her sister Jasmin Prodhan to appear before it on July 22.

The commission will record statements of Papul’s wife and his sister-in-law after allegations of amassing illegal wealth and money laundering by Papul have surfaced, said ACC director (public relations) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee.

ACC sent a notice signed by its deputy director Md Salauddin which reads “For proper investigation into the allegations against MP Kazi Papul, it’s necessary to listen to what Selina Islam and Jasmin Prodhan say.”

It added that Kazi Papul, who is also a director of NBR Commercial Bank, illegally approved loans to several clients of the Bank. He amassed huge amount of money by corrupt means and was also complicit in laundering money. He also has a lot of wealth worth millions, which is earned from unknown sources.

Failure to appear in ACC will mean that they don’t have anything to say in relation to the accusations levelled against Kazi Papul, according to the notice.
