CHATTOGRAM: Freedom Fighter Major (Retired) Shawkat Ali, Bir Pratik, passed away at Combined Military Ho spital (CMH) in Chattogram on Saturday. He was 68.
He left behind his wife, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives to mourn his death. Shawkat was buried at city’s Garibullah Shah Mazar graveyard after Namaz-e-Janaza on Sunday afternoon.Family sources said he had been suffering from different diseases, including heart, liver and kidney complications. He was admitted to the CMH some 10 days back. The war hero breathed his last there on Saturday afternoon, they said.
Hailing from Naogaon district, he used to live in the city’s Nasirabad area.
Shawkat, a subsector commander of Sector No.1, actively took part in the country’s Liberation War.
He participated in the wars taking place in the city’s Kalurghat area, Rangamati and Khagrachari before going to India for training.
He was honoured Bir Pratik title for his valiant effort at and contribution to the Liberation War.
