Women in double peril

At least 308 women and girls fell victims to different forms of violence in June across the country amid the Covid-19 pandemic, said a monthly report of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP).

Of the victims, 101 were raped, 25 women were victims of gang-rape and seven women were killed after the rape.

Fifteen others were also victim of attempt-to-rape, said the BMP report, prepared based on various reports of 14 newspapers of the country, said the report of the voluntary women’s right organisation.

The BMP report also said at least six women were victims of sexual harassment, 14 women abducted, 62 women and girls were killed due to various reasons, 21 women faced physical torturing and five of them were killed due to dowry, 17 women committed suicide, 34 were killed mysteriously.
