FM hopeful of bringing back all fugitive killers of Bangabandhu soon

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on Tuesday expressed his optimism to bring back the remaining fugitive condemned killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during the the Mujib Year.

“We were expecting, it will be possible to bring back at least one of the killers and put him under law within the Mujib Barsha. We are grateful to Almighty Allah as it become possible,” he said in response to arrest of condemned killer Abdul Majed.

 “It’s good news amid this coronavirus situation,” Momen said referring to the government’s earlier efforts to arrest at least one of the Bangabandhu’s fugitive killers in the Mujib Year, marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation.

The Foreign Minister’s made the call hours after police arrested expelled army captain Abdul Majed, one of the fugitive killers of Bangabandhu, who was on the run to escape the his death sentence.

Momen said out of the five remaining fugitive killers, one is now in the USA and another one in Canada.

Besides, he sought cooperation from the countrymen, including expatriate Bangladeshis, along with the government’s efforts to bring back all the killers.

“12 army officers were awarded death sentence for the August 15, 1975 killing of Father of the Nation along with most of his family members and five of them were executed while one died a natural death.”
