SC extends bail, stay and status quo

The Supreme Court extended period of bails and stay on case proceedings and status quo by two weeks after reopening of the courts.

Many litigants cannot get their bail, stay in case proceedings and injunction in civil cases extended amid closure of all courts due to coronavirus.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Law Minister Anisul Huq and Appellate Division Justices at a meeting on Saturday decided to extend bail and stay.

Later, Supreme Court Registrar General Md Ali Akbar issued a circular in this regard.

Appeals can be filed without a certified copy on the day of reopening of the court, the circular said, adding that certified copy needs to be submitted during hearing on the appeal in connection with the cases filed under special laws.

Currently, one or more magistrates are dealing with urgent cases in every district and metropolitan area across the country, said the SC circular.
