The local people have withdrawn their protest paving the way for construction of the temporary hospital in the capital for treatment of coronavirus-infected patients.

Akij Group with the assistance of Gonoshasthya Kendra is constructing the hospital at Tejgaon Industrial Area.

Earlier, the authorities stopped constructing the hospital when the local people demonstrated in the area in protest against construction of the hospital fearing spread of the virus in the surrounding the area.

Later, police and hospital authorities made them understand about the importance of the hospital. Sheikh Shamim Uddin, director of the corporate group, said that they are building the temporary hospital after discussing with the authorities concerned.

“We hope that the hospital can provide treatment within two weeks,” he said.

He added the treatment would be provided in free of cost. Ali Hossain, officer-in-charge of Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station, said that the locals were made understand about the importance of the hospital and now there is no problem to construct it.
