Experts at a roundtable said instead of spreading panic, collective efforts are needed to fight the newly emerged coronavirus.
Addressing the roundtable on Friday, physicians and civil society members also emphasied the need for improving personal hygiene practices to keep the virus in control.Bangla newspaper Kaler Kantho in association with the Universal Medical College organised the roundtable at East West Media Group head office in the capital.
Director General of Health Services Prof Abul Kalam Azad and Prime Minister’s personal physician Prof ABM Abdullah were special guests while Kaler Kantho Editor Imdadul Haq Milan moderated the roundtable.
Prof Abul Kalam Azad said the government has processed 100 thousands of test kits for diagnosing the Covid-19. “The authorities concerned monitor the situation as the private service providers can’t abuse the emergency situation.
The number of test kits will be increased on demand,” he said. Prof Azad also assured the medical practitioners about the government initiatives to procure equipments for enabling services in safe mode.
Among others, Kaler Kantho Acting Editor Mostofa Kamal, National Health Rights Movement Chairman Rashid-E-Mahbub, former Director General of Health Services Prof MA Faiz, ICDDRB Advisor Mostak Ahmed, Universal Medical College Research Centre Head Prof Rizwanur Rahman, Dhaka Medical College Prof Ahmedul Kabir, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Prof Shakil Ahmed and Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Bangladesh President Prof Sameena Chowdhury were present on the occasion.
