Narthaki Nataraj to 
be honoured at Nat’l Museum today

Padma Shri award-winner and remarkable Bharatnatyam dancer Dr. Narthaki Nataraj will be honoured at a reception programme organised by Bandhu Social Welfare Society (Bandhu) at the   National Museum in the capital’s Shahbag area today.  

She will be honoured for achieving Padma Shri for her cultural activities beyond being a transwoman. 

Nataraj will also perform a courtesy dance of Bharatnatyam essence after the reception.

Dr. Nataraj received Padma Shri award for her exceptional performance and achievement in culture (dance) on 2019. She is the first transwomen ever to receive such prestigious state award in the world.

She was also received Honorary Doctorate from Tanjavur Thanthai Periyar Maniammai University 2016. She participated in many international dance events in India, United Kingdom, United States of America and many other countries and she made herself a living legend as a transwoman.

To raise awareness among the Transgender community Bandhu Social Welfare Society is arranging the reception event. Bandhu Social Welfare Society is working to ensure the rights and social acceptance of transgender people for more than two decades.
