BEZA asked to submit natural gas requirement proposal

The Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD) on Monday asked the Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) for submitting a concrete proposal within a month for requirement of the natural gas at 100 special economic zones up to 2041.

Besides, it also asked the ministry of industries for scrutiny the actual gas requirement in private sector industrial units at the same year.

The EMRD formed special committee, led by additional secretary AKM Fazlul Haque, asked to submit the data during a meeting in the Secretariat on Tuesday.

Representative of different ministries and division attended the meeting.

The government wants to know about the actual demand of the natural gas till 2041 as it will take projects to implement liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects as per the requirement.

The EMRD has already submitted a proposal on natural gas requirement in different sector, official sources said.

 “But, we have ignored the huge demand of the natural gas in special economic zone…so we want to include the sector as well,” an official on condition of anonymity said.

As per the power system master plan, the Power Division has projected to demand of natural gas in electricity generation by 43 percent whereas the demand of coal is 32 percent in 2041.
