An incident of chase and counter-chase took place over the incident of throwing brick chips at the campaign trail of BNP mayoral candidate Tabith Awal in Gabtoli area of the capital Tuesday.

Tabith is vying for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral post.

The incident took place in Borobazar area near Gabtoli around 11:00 am on Tuesday, according to witnesses.

The BNP candidate filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission (EC) following the incident.

Witnesses said when Tabith and his supporters reached Borobazar area in Gabtoli for election campaign, a group of people started throwing brick chips at them, leaving Tabith and some of his supporters injured.

Later talking to reporters, Tabith claimed that the Awami League-backed councilor candidate Mujib Sarwar Masum and his followers attacked them while they were campaigning in the area.

Tabith Awal, however, continued his electioneering after the attack.

Atiqul Islam, Awami League-nominated mayoral candidate for the DNCC election, said the attack on his contestant Tabith may not be true.  They might make up the story through attacking themselves.

Atiqul Islam came up with this speculation while addressing an election rally at Beraid Muslim High School in ward No. 42 of DNCC.
