Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday claimed that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) had been turned into a party of complaint.

“Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has become a party of complainant as lodging complaints is its inherent habit,” he told reporters at a briefing at the Secretariat in the capital.

Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said that making complaints over any issue was the only politics of BNP.

“The BNP will make complaints over city elections too,” he said.

Quader also termed the BNP as the most failed opposition in Bangladesh. The minister expressed his dismay as he could not participate in the poll campaign to go by the code of conduct of the Election Commission. “But secretary general of BNP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been participating in poll campaign,” he said. Replying to a question, Quader said no discussion was held in the cabinet over the legal proceedings against Prothom Alo Editor and Publisher Matiur Rahman.

“It’s is a matter of the court. It is the court which issues the arrest warrant against Matiur Rahman, not the government. Everything has taken place as per the court order,” he said.

Quader said that the case was filed over an incident and the accused had been granted bail.
