Two killed in city road crashes

Two people were killed and another was injured in two road accidents in Fakirapool and Asadgate areas of the capital early Tuesday.

Witnesses said a man died and another received injuries when a covered van hit their motorcycle at Fakirapul intersection around 2:30am. The deceased was identified as Abdul Jalil, 38, of Kashimpur in Gazipur.

Sajjad Hossain, a resident of Mirpur who was driving the motorcycle, said, “Jalil was heading towards Arambagh to attend an Islamic congregation of Dewanbagh Darbar Sharif. I am giving a lift to Jalil from Abdullahpur to Arambagh.”   

“On the way, a covered van, while overtaking another one, hit the motorcycle in Fakirapul intersection, leaving Jalil critically injured,” he said.

Locals brought Jalil and Sajjad to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). On-duty physician declared Jalil dead around 3:10am. Sajjad received primary treatment at the hospital.

In Asadgate, a motorcyclist was killed as a truck hit a vehicle at Asadgate area in the capital around 12:00 midnight.

The deceased is Abdul Kader, 42, a resident of Mirpur-1 area, hailed from Daudkandi in Comilla.

Jobayer Hossain, younger brother of the deceased, said his brother got injured critically in a motorbike accident. Police rescued him and admitted to the DMCH.

Kader died around 2:15am while undergoing treatment at the hospital, Inspector Bachchu Mia said.
