The government has started to install barbed wire fences around Balukhali Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar, aiming to stop the spread of the Myanmar displaced people across Bangladesh.

Workers were seen installing pillars for barbed wire fences around Balukhali Rohingya camps.

Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed said last month that army engineers had begun erecting the pillars.

Earlier, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said, “We will soon install barbed wire fences around the camps as per the directive of the prime minister to ensure safety and security.”

Bangladesh is now hosting over 1.1 million Rohingyas and most of them entered Bangladesh since August 25, 2017.

Myanmar’s leader Aung San Suu Kyi was due to defend Myanmar at the International Court of Justice in The Hague on Tuesday against charges of genocide.
