Navy clinches  Bangabandhu National Fencing title

The closing ceremony of Bangabandhu 6th National Fencing Tournament-2024 was held at Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Dhaka’s Mirpur on Sunday.

Bangladesh Fencing Federation organised the 5-day event from 5 June to 9 June.

Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Chairman Professor Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam was present at the function as chief guest while Bangladesh Olympic Association’s DG Brigadier General (Retired) Shams A Khan, DIG of Bangladesh police MD Moniruzzaman, Prime Minister’s former Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri, former Director General of the Department of Passports valiant freedom fighter Abdul Mabud, PPM were present as special guests.

Bangladesh Navy clinched the title of the tournament while Bangladesh Ansar VDP became the first runner-up and Border Guard Bangladesh the second runner-up.

In addition, six more teams achieved medals at the ceremony.

Addressing the function, chief guest Professor Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam called upon all to bring glory for the nation being inspired by the ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Fencing will bring successes at home and abroad for the country the way Bangladesh is progressing under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he added. 

At that time, Bangladesh Olympic Association’s DG Brigadier General (Retired) Shams A Khan  assured  that he would extend all-out cooperation for the betterment of fencing in Bangladesh.

Prime Minister’s former Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri stressed the need for expansion of indoor games in Bangladesh.

DIG of Bangladesh police Mohammad Moniruzzaman thanked the organisers for promoting fencing at home and abroad.

Speaking at the function, Bangladesh Fencing Federation’s President Shoeb Chowdhury sought cooperation from all to construct infrastructures for the Fencing Academy.

He said, the economic successes in Bangladesh steered by the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, would roll into the global sports arena.

‘‘None will be able to stop the advancements of fencing in Bangladesh as Bangabandhu said- none will be able to suppress Bangalis,’’ Shoeb Chowdhury added

Bangladesh Fencing Federation’s General Secretary Selim Omrao Khan in his introductory speech called for patronization of indoor games.

Bangladesh Fencing Federation’s President Shoeb Chowdhury presided over the concluding function of Bangabandhu 6th National Fencing Tournament-2024.

At the end of the programme, the Chief guest handed over the champion and runners-up trophies. Total 30 teams and 180 fencers participated in the tournament.
