Mosquito menace worsens

Mosquito menace has turned worse at ward no 27 of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) hampering normal life.

Local people complained that the spraymen are not doing their routine work at their areas of Hosni Dalan road, Orphanage road, Palashi Fire Service road, Bakshi Bazar in the ward.

Besides, locals of Nazim Uddin road, Joynag road, Nawabagicha also said they hardy see anybody spraying insecticides in many places.  But DSCC has not taken any action yet in this regard.

The local people also blamed the 27 ward councilor Omar Bin Abdal Aziz for this situation and said there is no mosquito control programme in the areas for long.

Mohammad Yusuf, a resident of Hosni Dalan area said, “We are vexed by the mosquito particularly at night.”

“We don’t see any mosquito workers spraying insecticide in recent time. We have to use electric fan in the winter to get rid of mosquitoes. We are being victim of the situation,” expressing his anger, Yusuf said.

Meanwhile, talking to daily sun, ward councilor Omar Bin Abdul Aziz said, “You know we spray insecticide if we get allotment from the city corporation. In this moment, there is no allotment of insecticide. After the crash programme, we did not get the new allotment from DSCC. I, myself is the victim of mosquito menace, now.”

However, DSCC Chief Health Officer Brig Genral Sharif Ahmed said,  “It is absurd thing that a ward does not get insecticide during the crash programme. We have adequate manpower and machines for spraying insecticide. Also there have enough stock of insecticide.”

“I always supply logistics to every ward and hear problem from different section and try to resolve it.  But if there has no insecticide what the ward councilor and medical assistants are doing. They are responsible for it. We have no deficit. Who say, there is adequate allotment,” he also said. The chief health officer also said this reporter, “You better come along with the councilor to prove it. No responsible person can say there has no allotment of DSCC.”

When contacted, councilor Aziz said, “It may be misinterpreted, I did not say there is no allotment but we cannot spray insecticide in the whole ward at a time.
