CHATTOGRAM: Police Nari Kallyan Samity (Punak), an organisation of families of police, has come up with an initiative to sell onion at the premises of five police stations amid the skyrocketing price of the important cooking ingredient.

The organisation will sell the onion at a price of Tk 45 on the premises of Kotwali, Khulshi, Pahartali, Chandgaon and EPZ police stations from 10:00am today (Saturday).

The programme will be carried out for a week. One tonne of onion will be sold every day and a customer will get one kilogram from there.

Contacted, CMP Commissioner Mahabubur Rahman said the initiative was taken to ease availability of onion at a reasonable price.

The onion will be sold in subsidised price to help the general people to some extent, he said.

Five tonnes of onion will be sold from the five police stations every day.

Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mahbubul Alam said it is a great initiative as Punak stood beside the general people in this crisis moment.

The general people will be benefited from the laudable initiative, he observed.
