Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader said several agencies are looking into the recent incident of Bhola to find out what really happened on that day.

“The investigation is underway on the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Investigators are trying to find out if there is any plot behind the incident or if any communal forces are complicit in it,” he said.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, made the statements at a press conference at his secretariat office in the capital on Thursday.

At least four people were killed and hundred others received injuries in a clash between police and an angry mob in Bhola over a Facebook post which is alleged to hurt religious sentiments.

He said those responsible for the incident will be punished after investigation.

About the alleged implication of Shibir activists in the attack, he said, some familiar faces have been identified from surveillance camera footage.

“Action will be taken after investigation,” he said adding that many evidence have been collected from the video footage.

When asked about what measures have teen taken to check spread of rumours on Facebook, he said the government is in touch with the Facebook authorities.

Replying to a question, the minister said cricketers’ problems have already been resolved.

“Bangladesh Cricket Board oversees all activities of cricket. They have found a solution to all problems,” he said.

In response to another query, the minister said the Prime Minister would take a decision as to whether Bangladesh Cricket Board needs to undergo any change.

“Action will be taken against anyone if allegation is proved against them. No one is above the law,” he said.
