‘Midday Meal’ to be implemented by 2023

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossain said that the government is going to implement ‘Midday Meal Program’ in all schools across the country by 2023.

“In order to meet the nutritional need for physical and mental growth of the school-going children and to uphold the rights to education, we are going to launch school meal program in the country” the minister said.

A final draft of the ‘National School Meal Policy’ has been approved in the National Assembly recently,” said the state minister.

He made this remarks while addressing a national consultation on “Strengthening Reading Skills and Habit in Early Grade for Quality Education” held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on Dhaka University (DU) campus on Tuesday.

Room to Read and Institution of Education and Research (IER) of DU jointly organised the programme.

IER Director Prof Syeda Tahmina Akhter presided over the programme while Secretary of Primary and Mass Education Ministry Md Akram-Al-Hossain was present as the special guest. Room to Read Bangladesh Country Director Rakhi Sarkar was also present in the event.
