Pros And Cons Of Long Hair

Long hair is a fragment of fairy tales, with most Disney princesses possessing it. In reality, long hair really is a fairytale or even a myth! Growing it is arduous. Taking care of it is even more painstaking.

At the end of the day, being able to flaunt silky, long hair is an achievement. However, not everyone can achieve it! With that said, long hair is definitely back in fashion. While the trend was bent more towards shorter hair for the past few seasons, the scenario is changing. If you simply take a walk in any area that has at least one university, you will find many fashion-conscious girls with long, black hair. Some also go on to add ombre to it.

Having long hair used to be a traditional thing once upon a time. So it was the norm to see women who either wear sari or salwar kameez to be having really enormous buns or long braids. However, ‘long hair’ too has faced some modifications. So it’s no longer rare to find teenager girls and ladies in twenties wearing crop top, rugged jeans, bangs and long hair. In this case, Bangladesh is definitely a bit ahead of the West. Think of ten female celebrities who flaunted long hair in her movies or music videos? Well, there is Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande. But they, along few others, make a very small fraction. Compared to that, we can think of so many celebrities with wonderful, long hair from our country! And even the fashion forward girls here have given this look a different meaning by either dying their long hair red, or applying little bit of green with black, or highlighting a few strands and so on that look extremely gorgeous with both traditional outfits as well as Western ones.

So by now, if the reader is female, she is most likely tempted into owning this precious jewel. Just like our jewelry long hair really looks ornamental. A cotton sari with contrasting coloured blouse, kajol and long hair left open may be your go-to-look for office, lunch invitations and even parties. Having long also means that you can try out fun hairstyles during parties. With so many benefits, why don’t all women opt for it?

Well, the number one reason many are discouraged from having long hair is because of the extra maintenance. The longer the hair, the more the time, effort and money you need to invest. If you do not pamper it the way it wants to, you may end up with coarse, frizzy hair; split ends and even increased hair fall! That is quite counter-intuitive to what you wanted!

Long hair can also look thinner than short hair. If you ever wondered how come when you had mid-length or short hair and it looked so voluminous and now longer hair seems to resemble a snake, the answer is because of weight. As long as you trim the ends occasionally, you should be fine. If you want to create a voluminous look, ask your hairstylist to give you a layer cut. This way, hair near the ears will appear the thickest, followed by the layer near the shoulder. The lowest layer may appear kind of thin. You could opt for a U-shape to make it look smart and decent.

Another false belief, fueled by Indian films and serials, is that they can keep their long hair open 24/7. Our world is not ideal and there is a lot of pollution. Exposing your hair to pollution, wind, rain, sun, etc. all the time will make it more prone to damage. Keep it tied as often as you can so that you can protect it. But make sure you don’t tie it too tightly!

It is also important to use a good quality shampoo and conditioner. Don’t forget to give your weekly oil massages! Nutrition is absolutely important. Have more fresh vegetables, nuts and protein-based food.
