Kalabagan club president, 4 others nabbed

Kalabagan Krira Chakra Club president Shafiqul Alam Firoz and four of its staff members were arrested with a pistol, Yaba tablets and gambling equipment in the capital on Friday.

Shafiqul Alam is a member of the central executive committee of Krishak League.

Sources said RAB personnel raided the Kalabagan Krira Chakra Club following an allegation that some persons have been running casino business there.

A RAB team detained Firoz when he came out of the club to offer Jum’a prayers, said Aziz Uddin, general member of the club.

The elite force arrested four members of the club staff and seized a foreign pistol, Yaba tablets and gambling materials from there, RAB said. The seized pistol was illegal and unlicensed, RAB said.

The pistol, Yaba tablets and gambling materials were recovered from its president’s room, RAB said.   

 The other arrestees were Harun, Anwar, Hafijul and Liton.  RAB members took position in front of these clubs. RAB members will raid there, RAB said. 

RAB personnel asked Shafiqul some questions and took him away in a car.

Lt Col Ashique Billah, commanding officer of the elite force, said Shafiqul Alam was taken into custody for questioning. Cases will be filed with Dhanmondi police station against them under the Arms and Drug Act.

Besides, RAB members besieged Dhanmondi and Karwanbazar Matshajibi clubs in the capital.

Raids on the clubs were being carried out till the filing of this report on Friday night.

On September 18, RAB arrested Jubo League leader Khalid Mahmud from his Gulshan residence for his involvement in illegal casino business at a football club in Fakirerpool in the capital.

The crime-busting force raided five more clubs on the same day and arrested 182 people for gambling and drug abuse.
