Ajay Barua remembered with reverence

A remembrance meet was organised to pay tribute to one of the pioneers of sports journalism in Bangladesh, Dainik Sangbad Sports Editor Ajay Barua. The meet was held at Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association (BSJA) on Saturday.

On the mourning event, BSJA founder member Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, Dainik Sangbad vice-secretary Khandakar Muniruzzaman, BSJA former President Manjurul Haq, BSJA former general secretary, and sports journalist Jalal Ahmed Chowdhury, Bangladesh Olympic Association(BOA) former vice-secretary Ishtiaque Ahmed, BOA sports medicine sub-committee Vice-President  Prof Dr Zakir Ahmed, BSJA President Motaher Hossain Masum, BSJA general secretary Raihan Mughni and many other well wishers were present.

The prominent journalist, who was also a freedom fighter, was 71 at the time of his death. He left behind his wife, a son, two daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

Before death, Ajay was undergoing treatment in London for 12 days after falling sick. Later, he was shifted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital two days ago after his health condition deteriorated.

Ajay Barua was born on September 1, 1947 at Hathazari Upazila in Chattogram.
