Death anniv of Ivy observed

The 15th death anniversary of Ivy Rahman, former president of Bangladesh Mahila Awami League and wife of late President Zillur Rahman, was observed on Saturday.

Different political and socio-cultural organizations, including Bangladesh Awami League, its associate bodies and other organizations arranged elaborate programmes to mark the day.

The programmes included placing wreaths and offering Fateha at her grave at Banani graveyard, arranging milad mahfil and special prayers and holding discussions in the capital and elsewhere across the country.

Central leaders of Awami League and its associate bodies paid tributes to Ivy Rahman by placing wreaths at the Banani graveyard. They also offered Fateha and doa seeking eternal peace of her departed soul.

Besides, a milad and doa mahfil was held at the Ivy Concord Tower at Gulshan-2 seeking eternal peace of departed soul of late President Zillur Rahman, Ivy Rahman and August 21 grenade attack martyrs.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the milad and doa mahfil.

Apart from family members and relatives of the deceased, leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate bodies attended the programme.

Besides, separate milad and Qurankhawni was held at Ivy’s ancestral home and in-laws residence at Bhairab upazila in Kishoreganj district.

Ivy Rahman, also former president of Bangladesh Mahila Samity, received fatal injuries during the grisly grenade attack on an AL rally on Bangabandhu Avenue in the city on August 21, 2004 and succumbed to her injuries on August 24.
