A youth was beaten to death by an angry mob in Netrokona on Thursday after being caught with the severed head of a child stuffed in his bag.

The youth has been identified as Robin, 22. He is a rickshawpuller by profession.

Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Netrokona Model Police Station, said Robin was fleeing after cutting the head of Sajib, 8, son of Rais Uddin of Netrokona town.

Local people of New Town area chased him when he was fleeing with the head and gave him a mass-beating that caused his death.

Police recovered the body of the youth and head of the child, he added. The OC said, “There is no relation of rumour that heads are needed for the Padma Bridge construction. We came to know that Robin was a drug addict.”

Ashraful Alam, additional superintendent of police of Netrokona, said, “The remaining part of the body of the child could not be found.  The body of Robin was sent to Netrokona Modern Sadar Hospital for autopsy.”
