Foreign tourists visiting S Korea post double-digit growth in May

SEOUL: Foreign tourists to South Korea posted a double-digit growth last month as more Chinese and Japanese people visited the country, a government report showed Monday.

The number of foreign travelers to South Korea reached 1,485,684 in May, up 20 percent from the same month of last year, according to the Korea Tourism Organization, reports Xinhua.

Chinese tourists jumped 35.2 percent to 500,413 in the period, followed by Japanese travelers, the number of which advanced 26 percent to 286,273 in the month.

U.S. tourists to South Korea also picked up 13.3 percent over the year to 95,815 last month.
