The government has allocated Tk32,101 crore for the Ministry of Defence, Armed Forces Division and other relevant services in the proposed budget for fiscal 2019-20.
The allocation is 6.1 percent of the total proposed budget.The allocation of the defence budget was Tk29,084 crore in the FY 2018-19, while it was later revised to Tk 30,701 crore.
The defence sector budgetary allocation is Tk 3,017 crore higher than the budget of the previous FY 2018-19 of Tk 29,084 crore.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal made the proposal while placing national budget in the parliament on Thursday.
According to the proposed allocation, Tk 30,765 crore was allocated for defence services, Tk 1,298 for other services and Tk 38 crore for Armed Forces Division.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina unfolded the budget in the parliament on behalf of Finance Minister AHM Mustofa Kamal following his sickness.
