Law minister leaves for Austria

Law Minister Anisul Huq left for Austria on Sunday to join the 10th conference of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) scheduled to be held on May 27-29 in Vienna.

A delegation from Bangladesh, including the minister, representatives from Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division, Anti-Corruption Commission, Bangladesh Bank and Bangladesh Mission in Vienna, is scheduled to join the convention.

Bangladesh, a member-state to the UNCAC since 2007, has been praised by other states of the UNCAC for enhancing support to the anti-corruption convention.

The country has already formulated Public Interest Related Information Disclosure (Protection) Act, 2011, Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009, Right to Information Act, 2009, Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012, and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Act, 2012, as part of implantation of UNCAC.

It may be mentioned that, the convention covers five main areas: preventive measures, criminalization and law enforcement, international cooperation, asset recovery, and technical assistance and information exchange.
