Lightning kills 3 in Cox’s Bazar

COX’S BAZAR: Three people including two siblings were killed as lightning struck them at Ramu and Ukhia upazilas in the district on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Fatema Khatun, 15, her younger brother Afnan, 2, offspring of one Mawlana Nurul Islam of Kalarparra Tulabagan area under Ramu upazila, and Abdus Salam, 50, a resident of Block No-5 at Kutupalong Rohingya Camp under Ukhia upazila.

Sources said heavy downpour with lightning started at several upazilas in the district in the morning.

Police said lightning struck on the tin-roofed house of Nurul Islam in Kalarparra Tulabagan area under Khunia Palong union in Ramu upazila at around 11.00am. Quoting the neighbours, the OC said two siblings died on the spot and three others of the same family injured.

Meanwhile, Rohingya Salam died on the spot as lightning struck him while he was walking at the camp at the same time, said OC Abul Khair of Ukhia police station.
