Drug addict stabs woman to death in Chattogram

CHATTOGRAM: An ‘addicted’ youth stabbed a woman to death and injured four others in the city’s Uttar Kattali area on Friday evening.   

Police arrested the youth Satyajit, 35, immediate after the incident.

The deceased was identified as Sandha Rani, 60, wife of Dhirendra Chandra, while the injured were Shanti Nandi, 70, Dipak dutta, 48, Tinku Dutta, 45, and Pradip Talukder, 40.  

Officer in-Charge (OC) Md Jasim Uddin of Akber Shah Police station said that Satyjit runs a pharmacy in the Uttar Kattali Boro Kali Bari area.

He is a drug addict and has been suffering from mental disorder, said the OC quoting locals.

He swooped on the locals on Friday evening and started stabbing them with a sharp machete indiscriminately.

Five locals were injured in the attack. They were rushed to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Shandha dead, said OC Jasim.

Satyajit also jumped into a pond to avert public wrath after the attack. Later, police arrested him.

He was also sent to CMCH for dope test and filing of a case in this connection was under process, added the OC.
